The BBC is running a feature article on mental flexibility. For some strange reason, the article is only available in the UK, Germany, and Sweden at the moment. Because it’s quite an interesting piece, I asked a Swedish friend from the Dark Web to snag a copy so I can post it here. Enjoy and let me know what you think.
Don’t miss my quote in the middle of the last page:
“Don’t judge what you lean towards, because this is who you are,” says Kashdan. “If you walk through the world trying to be the Dalai Lama when you want to be Jim Morrison, you’re not going to live the one life that you have a chance for.”
As I am fond of saying, the world needs more jesters and fewer preachers. More Jim Morrisons (and incredible actors like Val Kilmer who play them) and fewer “brocasters” who rehash identical morning rituals….
Especially the jacked neuroscience-adjacent ones—who got the same memo: Wake up at 5:17am (never 5:00, too conformist), stare directly into the sun while whispering affirmations to your mitochondria, red light your taint for cellular coherence, then dry scoop 11 supplements with names like “NeuroForge” and “GutFlex Alpha 9.” Then it’s off to nasal-only ice bath breathing while journaling your HRV fluctuations and syncing your circadian rhythm to an ancient Siberian wolf-howl audio track. By 6:12am, they’ve "optimized" six bodily systems you didn’t know existed, all before you’ve finished your sad batch of microwave Jimmy Dean Sausage & Egg Croissant Sandwich.
Guess what? People have survived for 100’s of years without this biopsychosocial regimen, and so will you.
We will talk about this and much more.
