Notes on Insidious Relationship Beliefs, Jagged Personality Profiles, Shaping Childhood Rebellions, Et cetera, et cetera
Podcast appearance + Radiohead + Ask Me Anything November details
Open up news articles on young people refusing long work weeks and office life, or sift through national polls (here), and a clear trend emerges.
Younger generations are boldly redefining success by prioritizing some semblance of work-life balance. They're getting degrees and seeking jobs. But they are doing this with more intention than prior generations, crafting lifestyles with sufficient space to invest in friends, lovers, hiking, Formula 1 racing, fitness, mountain cabin trips, and moments of awe like this Radiohead cover band I saw this weekend with a female lead singer!!!
This younger generational attitude is often misinterpreted as a rise in laziness and narcissistic entitlement (enough of society’s misuse of therapy jargon). I view it as a refreshing acceptance of shifting priorities.
Here’s a psychological truth: a day will not go by when there is work-life balance. Every day presents a jagged profile of competing demands.
This is one of many topics that I cover with interviewer extraordinaire, Benoit Kim and his top 15 leadership podcast, Discover More. I sat down with him for 1 hour and 45 minutes. This is for anyone interested in well-being, the science of social relationships, how to respond to rejection, how to handle youth rebellions, constructive disagreements, and more. This is a juicy one.
